Optics

In today's world of boating and fishing, optical devices are becoming more important and popular. We carry everything from standard binoculars, image stabilized binoculars, and even the latest technology in night vision. The main thing you need to know in picking out the best set of binoculars is what magnification and lens diameter are you looking for. For example, 7 x 50 is a common magnification and lens diameter of a set of standard binoculars. This means that you will have 7 times the magnification and the lens is 50 mm in diameter. The more the magnification, the further you will be able to see. The larger the diameter of the lens, the wider the field of view you will have. With such enhanced viewing, you're sure to enhance your commercial or recreational life on the water.

Night Vision

Night vision devices can be either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation technology. What these generations refer to is the type of light intensifier tube used for that particular device. The light intensifier tube is the heart of a night vision device (NVD). Basically, the higher the generation, the brighter and sharper the image. A common feature to many night vision devices is an infra-red illuminator (IRI). An IRI throws out a beam of infra-red light that is invisible to the naked eye, but not your NVD. This allows you to use your scope in total darkness. An important thing to remember about night vision devices is that they're not binoculars and do not enlarge distant objects. Their purpose is to enhance vision in the dark, not magnify images. In the price charts, we've included detection range and recognition range as part of the specifications. The detection range is the distance at which you actually see a far-off object, and whether or not it is moving. Recognition range is the distance at which you see details of this object, for example, the number on a distant buoy.
